CNET: Online private eyes draw privacy complaints

July 23rd, 2005

CNet has an interesting article regarding the alarming number of small websites that offer access to web surfers personal information. While large sites like yahoo and google allow one to get an address or a phone number with ease, smaller sites are offering more personal information such as social security and birth certification information

Best People Search and People Search America are just of the smaller sites that allow potentially malicious web surfers to dig up personal information. It is actually pretty alarming. I have yet to look for myself but I doubt there is much information regarding me since I try not to leave a paper trail. The cnet article, which can be found here, describes several of these sites along with the types of information one can obtain from them.
